THE TECHNOLOGY-FREE APPROACH TO PROJECT PLANNING

It’s Monday morning, you’re rushing out the door and have no clue where to start your day.

Sound familiar?

I spent years feeling this way and recently implemented these easy, technology free tips to get more done without the extra hustle.

1. Schedule your to-dos

I’m an advocate of using a Bullet Journal to physically write down my plans. Mine is not fussy and takes about 20 minutes a week to organize. I look at my personal and work to-do lists and block off time in my calendar to accomplish each task. That way, before I check email and start my day, I already know what I need to work on and adjust my day accordingly. I’m less likely to feel pulled in multiple directions and more able to dive into my work.

2. Do one thing at a time

How often do you check email or Facebook while you are trying to write a blog post? As I write this, all of my notifications are turned off, my phone is on airplane mode (NOT connected to WiFi) and I’m out of the house so no one can interrupt me. This allows me to focus on the task at hand and takes less time to complete.

3. Put pen to paper

This tip is helpful if you are a writer and is also useful if you are tackling difficult emails, proposals, or even crafting Instagram copy. There’s something about the physical act of pushing a pen on paper that can make words flow more easily. You can then transcribe them electronically.

4. Check your email less

No one is paying you to be great at emailing them back five mins after they sent you an email. Your students and clients are paying you for the talent and skills they hired you for. You should be focused on that 95% of your day and checking email the other 5%. Even if you just checked email every two hours instead of every two minutes, imagine how much space that would free up in your day.

Your real work deserves your full attention.

Now, go forth and create!
